Find out what each member of 4acesdate say every girl must have!!!

What inspires you to blog?

Cookie: I am inspired by my blog partners actually. I love seeing their style posts and speaking with them about ways to grow our blog. It is just fun logging in and seeing their updates, I think they are all so stylish and creative, it inspires me to be the same.

Ozzy: I don’t consider myself some kind of inspirational person, but its always extremely humbling when you come in contact with a stranger who reads your blog and they have nothing but positive things to say, or they say they have learned something from it, or they were inspired to pursue their own passions because of it. I think that sort of overwhelming response to something you do in your own little corner, is what keeps me blogging. If I have inspired even one person somewhere, then I consider it a blessing.

Abby: We Fashion bloggers have created such a beautiful community of stylish people who inspire each other and i am so proud to be part of that community. It’s such a positive creative outlet that i can’t imagine life without it.

Kaven: I am inspired by trends and basically everything I find interesting. Sometimes, a pattern or color can be quite intriguing to me and I will become obsessed and blog about it.

How would you define your personal style?

Cookie: My personal style is inspired alot by the retrodecades. I love playing around with 50s, 60s & 70s  silhouettes. I just think that retroinspired styling is classic, we will always pay homage to the days when women were so feminine in their choice of garments.

Ozzy: I’d say my personal style is kinda always evolving. I get inspired by different things, there was a time when my syle was inspired by 80s movies, another time I was inspired by Betty Paige.. right now I live in Lagos so my style has taken on an afrocentric vibe. I like to look laidback but stylish, cool but still hold a certain level of sophistication. I go for clean lines with a fumky edge.

Kaven: My style continues evolving. Right now I loving the clean, sophisticated look. I love clean lines infused with some of the current trends like florals, pastels etc. I also like to be quite comfortable so that plays a lot in my personal style.

Do you find that you follow fashion trends, or do you play by your own rules?

Cookie: Both. The fashion world is really amazing, some trends designers emerge with every season are insanely chic. Not every trend works for me of course, some I admire from afar, others not so much and some I adopt. I am more interested in what works for my body shape and what I personally adore.

Ozzy: Id say a mix of both. Its important to keep up with what is going on in the fashion world because that is the industry I work in, but at the same time its important to maintain a level of individuality. I dont just rock every trend because its in at the moment, some things work for my style and others do not.

Abby: Definitely both, i believe in executing a trend if it blends naturally with your current style instead of forcing it just because it’s what’s currently in.

Kaven: A mix of both. It is only natural for one to sometimes follow trends because everything has been a trend at some point. I like some trends that would work for me…but I am not one to be a slave to a trend just because everyone is wearing that.

Items to get, what are you searching for right now?

Cookie: Shoes, shoes and more shoes. I definitely don’t have enough pairs that are different. I am looking for classic shoes that are unique enough to stand out but not so “in trend” that I wouldn’t be able to rock them a year from now.

I am very into the sherbet trend, I did a recent post on this season’s obsession with mint, I am slowly building up my pastel hued clothing collection.

Ozzy: I just want to go shopping!!!! Shopping is not so great here, so when I get a chance to leave the country, I stock up like crazy!!! So its fair to say I’m searching for everything right now….

Abby: Purses! I’m a bag girl for sure. When it comes to my purses I  need more variety and right now i’m stocked up on black and muted colors so my current goal is to improve my color pallet with more bold bright colorful clutches

Kaven: New shoes…I can never get enough. Also some nice pastels for the summer.

Are there any colors you tend to shy away from, and if so why?

Cookie: Not really, I love color! Our skin is awesome, its richness in melanin allows us to be able to rock color brilliantly.

Ozzy: No I dont shy away from any colors… I’m not one to believe in any color myths like this color doesnt go with this skin tone or black people shouldnt wear this or that. Its all silly to me. Color is beautiful and vibrant and looks great on everyone!

Abby: DARK BROWN. That is the ONLY color i would say i’m shy “about” not so much shy away from… expect for dark brown leathers i suppose. I’m just very selective when it come to that particular color.

Kaven: No…I think all colors can work when combined in the right way.

When you hear the term “Black Girl Killing It” what comes to mind?

Cookie: What I immediately envision is an accomplished black woman focused on her goals and thorough in every aspect of achieving them. I apply the term to any black female making waves in whatever field she belongs to, be it in the fashion or/and entertainment industry, a college/graduate student or a working woman.

Ozzy: What comes to mind is a successful black woman who conquers any domain she decides to be in. Focused, determined, hardworking, gracious and successful.

Abby: “One big room full of bad B******” , lol jokes aside i’m very proud to be a black woman and hope to always be “killing it”. Even when i’m 70, I’ll dye my hair sliver, throw a fur coat over my right shoulders and stay killing it.

Kaven: A black female who is established and is confident and fearless in her choices.

As a child were you always into clothes or did you grow into your own fashion sense?

Cookie: I have always been into clothes. Always. It didn’t just happen, it has been this way forever. I have 3 older sisters who were/are clothes obsessed, they passed it on to Kaven and I.

Ozzy: Ive always been very into clothes… I dont know how it happened. My mother ran an atelier where i spent a lot of my youth so I guess i can cite her as an influence, but since I was young, movies, music videos, magazines, I have always been immersed in the world of fashion.

Abby: Always. We are all artist In my family, so i would say my love for clothes was and “IS” inspired by my love for art.

Kaven: I have always been into clothes. I made clothes for my barbies, arranged fashion shows with my friends. I loved everything about clothes. I have very fashionable sisters and of course Cookie and I were influenced by them.

Do you participate in your local fashion scene?

Cookie: Yes definitely.

Ozzy: I currently work in the fashion industry in Lagos, Nigeria

Abby: Definitely, when you live in New york it’s almost impossible not to.

Kaven: Yes I do. I am a model in New York so there is no running from fashion for me.

How does your day to day life factor into your wardrobe choices?

Cookie: I am a grad student so I definitely dress down a lot during the week. The only attention I want to garner in school is for the right reasons, my grades lol.

Ozzy: I incorporate my style into my every day life

Abby: Well i am also an aspiring actress so when i have to run around which most times i do… i make sure i look stylish but comfortable.

Kaven: Well I have invested in huge bags if anything because as a model, I carry around a lot of stuff. I regularly wear black because it is easy and I am mostly in denims or leggings because those are more comfortable for me.

What is your greatest fashion pet peeve?

Cookie: I would say my biggest peeve would be blindly jumping on a trend bandwagon and taking it for a long ride. Not every one can execute certain trends and so I think it is best to not go overboard in an attempt to be ahead of the game. The color-block trend as an example was beaten to death!  some executed it properly, it was chic, we got it, and others just went a little too far with their interpretation. If you can’t tell already, I am a proponent of moderation lol.

Ozzy: I dont really have any Fashion pet peeves I believe everyone has a right to experiment and find their own style. One man’s meat is another man’s poison.

Abby: Well i believe everyone has a right to do what they want with their own style… who am i to judge.

Kaven: I prefer people to dress according to what suits them and not what is popular.

Have you ever tried your hand at design or sewing?

We all sew and design! Designing is definitely part of our future plans.

Are there any designers that you like to wear or whose clothing stands out with you?

Cookie : I am big fan of so many designers. Nowadays I am very into clothing from Nigerian designers, Jewel by lisa & Lanre Da silva, I love their fabric, cuts and designs. Amazing.

Ozzy: I cant begin to list the designers that I love!

Abby: There are so many designers i love but after seeing some of the new collections from Arise fashion Week in Lagos I can’t wait to have a blazer or two from CLAN!

Kaven: I am currently loving the Nigerian designers and I am happy to see that they are getting noticed in the Western world. I will always love Jewel by Lisa, Maki Oh also the new collection from Clan.

Who are your style icons?

Cookie:  My style icons are Audrey Hepburn, Katherine Hepburn, Diana Ross, Lauren Bacall, Grace Jones, Sarah Jessica Parker, very cliche lol. Strong, elegant women who wore clothes brilliantly.

Ozzy: I have a lot of style icons… some are Katherine Hepburn, Grace Jones, Fela’s wives and so on

Abby: Believe or not but i’m just going to say Michael jackson. LOL because to me he was a great style icon and has influenced the way i dress so much over the years.

Kaven: I love how Kate Moss always looks, love Katherine Hepburn, Anna Dello Russo, Sarah Jessica Parker.

Your five must-haves as a girl:

Cookie: Black eyeliner, a little black dress, a great bra, a chic thin belt (you never know what you need to cinch),  elegant strappy sandals.

Ozzy: Red lipstick, Great pair of shoes, black pants, signature scent, little black dress

Abby: I don’t leave my house without my Red lipstick!

Kaven: Great underwear, awesome black pumps, Great fitting jeans, that sexy dress, and a white T shirt.
